One of the things, I enjoy about my job is witnessing the moments of family interaction that happen as everyone is getting ready for the next photo. Those moments where they forget I am present and are just being a family together. I am so blessed that this family agreed to let me share this session with you. It gives me the chance to show you getting family photos should be an enjoyable experience.
Each family I work with is unique and the dynamics between the family members change from family to family. The Harris family is expressive, lively, and full of energy! They love to be silly and make each other smile… LITERALLY, in some cases. I was showing Joel that he did not need to give me a cheese smile as I call it. You know that smile that happens to children and some adults when the camera is pointed at them and the person takes their picture and “says CHEEEESSSEEE!” While explaining to him that kind of smiling breaks my camera because it literally clogs it up with cheesy residue. His sister walked over to him and took his cheeks and said smile! smile like this!!!!
Oh, my goodness, it was a hilarious moment that left me full of giggles and I was not alone! When the giggles subsided the two got close together hugging each other and delivered a photo that you could take home to Grandma! It was so precious.
Loren continued to be silly throughout the photo shoot! She was making googly eyes at the camera every chance she got. She was quite the ham and her brother and sister truly appreciate her ability to make them laugh!
Loren loves to bring laughter to everyone around her like she is a magical fairy that brings the that sprinkles joy every where she goes!
It is so much fun being able to create in the moment. Taking every day activities and turning them into something special for the families that ask me to take their photos.
While their older sister Kaylee was watching her siblings play, I turn to look at her the light was hitting her perfectly and she was positioned so beautifully. I snapped a picture and she looked at me! I quickly snapped a few pictures before she could give it another thought! She instantly wanted to see it and told me how she really does not like seeing herself in pictures, because she does not like the way that she looks. Isn’t she beautiful?!
She is simply beautiful! Like most girls her age, she is having difficulty seeing the beauty that others see. Shoot, Even, I struggle to see my own beauty and I am 39 years old. I think that sometimes society makes it so hard for us because we are bombarded with the high standards of fashion and models.
I wanted to give her a picture that would show her the beauty but was young and more hip. I asked her to pick up a leaf off he ground. I told her, “ok hold it in your left hand and over your right eye.” I love the way this turned out!
It almost has an editorial feel. I was filled with joy when she said, “Mom! I need that one blown up on my wall!” It was then I knew I had finally showed her how beautiful she really is. I had reached her.
She then started posing for me with each picture without any guidance. She had confidence now that she did not have at the beginning of the session and she was standing up straight, sitting up straight, smiling more, and was relaxed! She seemed like she was now comfortable in her own skin! It was clear that she saw it!!! She saw what everyone else could see all along. How gorgeous she really is! Inside and out! this made my heart sing and was a very special moment of our time together!
Mom Amanda and Dad Scott are so amazing with their kids. Scott is firm but kind and Amanda is so patient and kindhearted. They are the prefect positions of salt and pepper. They love each child for who they are no exceptions! Scott and Amanda are still very much in love and the playful couple! Enjoying every moment, they get to spend with each other and with their children. You can tell that despite the years the love they have for one another is great and their children are their world!
I had so much fun with this lovely family! It was joy to take pictures with them. I am so grateful to them for allowing me to create and capture these beautiful moments!
