New Year’s Resolutions
I have never been one for new year’s resolutions. I have thought for years that they are filled with empty promises for weight loss, eating healthier, dieting, getting more sleep, etc.…. It was my thought that they could do nothing for me, and it was useless fun activity that everyone does each year. I was full of negativity about new year’s resolutions not realizing that there was so much power in those words and thoughts. No wonder each year only yielded another failed promise to myself.
I have learned a lot about words and their power over the past year. Gandhi and many others have pointed to the power of our words.
“Keep your thoughts positive because your thoughts become your words. Keep your words positive because your words become your behavior. Keep your behavior positive because your behavior becomes your habits. Keep your habits positive because your habits become your values. Keep your values positive because your values become your destiny.” – Mahatma Gandhi
I now understand the power of words and realize the benefit of new year’s resolutions. They are something to help you reach for the best you and set achievable goals for yourself. If you halfheartedly make them, you will never yield their benefit. Realizing this new knowledge and the power of my words and their effect on my future. I set out to make my new year’s resolutions this year with positivity and resolve!
1.) BE TRUE to myself and my art!
“Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind.” – Bernard M. Maruch
In a world where each day the pressure to conform to the standard and norm is so heavy, I resolve to be 100% true to my art and myself by creating art that I cannot resist creating. I will feel deeply and aim to create art that allows others to feel deeply and find beauty. I will be unapologetically me. Raw. Real. Casting aside fear of judgements. Allowing others to love me for me.
2.) BRING POSITIVITY each day!
“If we understood the power of our thoughts, we would guard them more closely. If we understood the awesome power of our words, we would prefer silence to almost anything negative. In our thoughts and words, we create our own weaknesses and our own strengths. Our limitations and joys begin in our hearts. We can always replace negative with positive.”-Betty Eadie
I am resolved to remain positive and bring positivity to others through my art, words and actions. Taking hold of my thoughts not allowing negativity to take hold and fill me with fears. To challenge myself to find positivity in even the darkest moments of the year.
3.) ENCOURAGE OTHERS to find beauty and positivity!
“The purpose of life is to contribute in some way to making things better.” – Robert F. Kennedy
Encourage the world with positivity by creating and sharing art that shows beauty found in the world, in others, themselves and in all God has created.
4.) PROVIDE SUPPORT and surround myself with doers!
“Surround yourself with the dreamers, and the doers, the believers, and thinkers, but most of all, surround yourself with those who see the greatness within you, even when you don’t see it yourself.” – Edmund Lee
I resolve to be supportive, encouraging others including to other budding artists, my community and other entrepreneurs. Surrounding myself with the doers, dreamers, believers and thinkers. Not only be encouraged by them but to look for the greatness and uniqueness that each of us bring to the world.
5.) EDUCATE others helping them reach for their dreams!
“If you can dream it, you can do it!” – Walt Disney
This year I am resolved to encourage others to be creative by including them in the creative process and providing education to other beginner photographers so they can see their dreams come to life. Like the mom who wants to be able to build a slideshow for their child’s graduation or create customized gift and books with their family photos. To encourage them to be creative and help them see they too have what it takes!
6.) CHALLENGE MYSELF to be more!
“Challenge yourself every day to do better and be better. Remember, growth starts with a decision to move beyond your present circumstances.” Robert Tew
I am resolved to challenge myself as an artist, businesswomen and person to give more, to be more, and to continue to grow. I will chase after growth and desire to be better than the year before.
7.) CONTINUE TO GROW as an artist and business!
“True potential for growth is measured by your willingness to let go of what you think you know, and embrace something seemingly contrary, thereby, challenging yourself to go higher.” ― C. Orville McLeish
This year I am resolved to challenge myself to grow as an artist and develop my skill. To grow so that I can be the best artist I can be and create the best art I can create. I will continue to learn new skills and to learn from others. I will be open to new ideas and willing to try artistic approaches.
8.) SHARE BEAUTY with the world!
“Life is full of beauty. Notice it. Notice the bumble bee, the small child, and the smiling faces. Smell the rain and feel the wind. Live your life to the fullest potential, and fight for your dreams.” Ashley Smith
I continue to resolve to encourage the world to find and see the beauty in the world and in themselves. To create art that allows them to see something deeper than skin deep to see the soul of the person and see God’s presence in the world around us.
9.) WORK HARD to be the best I can be!
“God has given you gifts because He wants you to develop and pursue it. Do you have a buried Gift? Maybe it is something you loved to do but gave up to get a “real job.” Never give up on something you cannot go for a day without thinking about. It’s not too late to become who God created you to be.” Kerry Shook
I am resolved to keep working hard to nurture the gifts that God has given me to bless others. To continue to grow my business so that I do not just have a job but have something that will support me and my family while being true to what God created me to be. An artist that is creative, feels deeply and is true to myself! Expecting others to be nothing more than what God created them to be! Amazingly themselves!
10.) NEVER GIVE UP!
“Never stop dreaming and working hard towards achieving your dreams! Chase your dreams! Never doubt your capabilities to come out a winner. Struggle hard but never give up the chase to achieve your dreams!” ― Avijeet Das
I am resolved to never give up on my dreams of having a successful business, where I can continue to learn, grow, and be unapologetically true to myself and my art!
